CADA, Council 12, and Companions

Guess who's back, back again.. Katelyn's back, tell a friend. I feel like all of my recent blogs have started with rejoicing of my return. Oh well.

The past four days were well spent. I went to a leadership called CADA, and it was so much fun! Although I was hesitant on going, I'm glad that I ended up spending my four days at UCSB with a bunch of wonderful people. Each day was filled with a bunch of activities and let me tell you: although very tedious and tiring, the last four days were so great that words won't even come close to describing how amazing the experience was. So, I leave you with pictures from CADA.

I'm sorry this blog wasn't as extensive as my other ones. Going into detail would turn this blog post into a novel. A picture is worth a thousand words, but memories are worth a million. And I definitely made some of the greatest memories (and friends) thanks to leadership camp.

Weird Faces, Walks, and Watch Parties

I'm back.. again! As for my lack of posts, my laziness kicked in. I apologize and hope you can forgive me. (But of course you can, and that's why you're back here on my blog again!)

Yesterday was pretty great. The sunshine-filled morning started by going to church with my family. The only thing I really got a kick out of was my sister chewing some Orbit gum. It sounds weird, but it's true! Because she decided not to brush her teeth that morning (gross), I made her pop a gum in her mouth. She made a plethora of weird faces that I didn't even know she was capable of making. It was pretty funny, and there's no use in me trying to describe it because it was one of those you-just-had-to-be-there moments. Sorry, reader! Maybe next time I'll take a video.

Something I always look forward to is spending time with my boyfriend, which I haven't really done as much as I would have hoped because a) I don't have a car/insurance, so I always have to find a ride somewhere and b) he gets busy with football. But that's alright, because when we do hang out together, it makes it that much more fun and enjoyable.

Trying to avoid the usual movies-and-dinner dates we always have, Isaac and I decided to do something we haven't done together: bowling! I took him to 300, and we played one game since we both like being cheap and did not want to pay an excessive amount to roll a ball into some pins.

I had a very off day yesterday, okay
The remaining time spent together was used up by walking around Oakridge and going to random stores to play with whatever was inside. We went to Brookstone, a Radio Shack-esque store, and found enjoyment in their magnetized writing boards, as well as their massage chairs (but those hurt in all the wrong places). And what's a trip to Oakridge without a stop at the Disney store?! I searched around like a little kid in a candy store, while Isaac just followed me around. How was he not excited at the Disney store?! I'm mindblown too, reader. Trust me.

After browsing through Target, Macy's [in which I smelled Chanel Blue (the cologne Harry Styles uses) and came to the conclusion that he smells magnificent], Sears, and a whole bunch of other places, we stopped at a photobooth to take pictures. All the themes were pretty cheesy (the enchilada kind), and we were having a hard time settling on one as our background. Although unexpected (but very much needed, in order for us to just take our pictures), Isaac pressed the start button on accident and we had five seconds to make up a pose. The timer on that thing went so quickly! We couldn't even think. We had a good laugh out of it, though.

I'm hoping that in time we get better at these
Needless to say, I came home pretty happy. The family had a movie night and we ended up watching New Year's Eve. I love that movie! I had a good day yesterday and I hope you did too.

Until Next Time,
Katelyn

Mommy's Birthday, Milk Chocolate Brownies, and Much Bitterness

Hello reader! I apologize for my lack of posting.. You're probably asking yourself, "How did I ever survive without Katelyn's daily posts?!" Have no fear, reader, I'm back! And you can bet your bottom dollar that your entertainment has returned in full effect.

Nothing too spectacular has happened the past few days, but if you insist on knowing of what has been going on in my life currently, here is a bullet-point list for you:

  • The family went to go watch the Katy Perry: Part of Me movie in 3D. I highly recommend the film, even if you aren't a huge Katy Perry fan (but trust me, after this movie, you will be). As a singer, I  now look to her for inspiration. Overall, the film was touching and heartfelt.
  • The days after that were pretty much filled with nothingness, as most of them were spent sitting around on the computer. My life can be very exciting at times like those.
  • Some of my friends (or most, I should say) are more like family to me. One of those friends is Kristian Vizcocho. He called me yesterday to tell me he missed me (insert a plethora of "awww"s here), and we just had a good time catching up. Yay for friends who can keep up a conversation!
Today, however, was a very special day. 36 years ago today, my beautiful mommy was born!

She obviously hasn't aged a bit
Today was another one of those afternoons were I had nothing planned, so I decided to make my mom a card to give along with her gifts. Not much to my surprise, what I had written on the back of the card made her cry (I could seriously win an award in Making Moms Tear Up).

I try to be creative.. I try
The birthday girl with her Tinkerbell cup and car decal

After our presentation of gifts, I found out something very appalling that I will not share with the interwebs. However, I will let you know that the person it's about is very stingy with their brownies and has a lot of hostility built inside him/her/it. If he/she/it ever reads this blog, I would like you to know that you do not have very pretty insides, and you would have probably done Pinocchio a lot of justice with all of those lies you told.

(I'm a very happy girl with good intentions and positive outlooks--please don't let the above paragraph fool you.)

Until Next Time,
Katelyn

Samaritans, Swimming, and Spoons

Hot hot hot hot hot. The weather was hot. It was the hottest day of summer we've had thus far, I'd say. Did I mention it was hot? Oh, well if not, it was hot.

My first morning adventure was a trek to a hospital not too close to my house. A hospital where two of my cousins have been born--Good Samaritan Hospital. Why would I go to the hospital if nothing is wrong with me, you ask? (Well, physically, that is, because I have tons of weird problems, like my 1D obsession... and ranting while I should be trying to stay on subject... anyways...) The reason for the spontaneous visit was to meet my new baby cousin, Khloe Nicole! I was really excited at this point because it had been 10 years since a girl cousin had been born on my mom's side of the family.

Every time I go to a hospital, my thoughts aren't very... positive. If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I'm very afraid of hospitals (call me crazy, but many scary movies later, this is the aftermath). My mouth, eyes, and ears were covered because as I just mentioned, movies have traumatized me. If there was a gold medal for sprinting to a hospital room, I would have taken it home because I literally moved as fast as I could to my aunt's mother and baby unit room for safety. Once my family entered the room, there was a photographer taking a picture of the newborn. I was like, why would you hire a photographer right after you gave birth....... But of course I was making a dumb assumption (as I do in most cases), and soon realized that the hospital sends a photographer in to take pictures of the baby for keepsake cards. Since when did they start doing that?! I'm sure my parents would have appreciated HD pictures of me a day after I was born. I know I would have, shoot.

Welcome to the world, Khloe Nicole!

After we heard many crying sessions from the little princess, we went on our way to a party. PAAAARTAY, HAAAAAY. It was held at my Auntie Carolyn's friend's house, one of which I've been to before. I really would not have been excited to head to the location if it weren't for being able to see my cousin and some of our family friends.

As they say, the best things in life are free. But what's the best free thing of all? Free food! And parties are great for that. So of course I pigged out and grabbed a whole bunch of food items from the buffet-style table. Once I felt bloated, I sat down with my cousin and her friend Holly to watch the boys do stupid tricks in the swimming pool. Leon and Sidney felt that they were doing a great job, but their tricks were a 0 on a scale of 1 to 10. Sad, isn't it?

Once the boys were done swimming, we went inside and I taught them how to play a card game called spoons. If you don't know how to play, the game goes like this: the dealer deals out one card at a time, while taking out a card of his own as he tries to get four of a kind. Each player does this at a fast pace. Once someone gets four of a kind, they reach in the middle for the object (we used Band-Aids because that's all we had) and the person who doesn't grab one of the objects loses. But what's a card game without a little bit of fun? To make things more interesting, we decided that the loser would have to tell an embarrassing story about themselves. Boy, did I learn a lot about these kids.

The magical deck of cards that revealed so much

I learned that Sidney used to wear his mother's bras

So our little entourage has been meaning to figure out a name for ourselves to make it more "official." 45 minutes and stupid suggestions later, we came up with The MFUSC. It's nothing special, really. I'd say it's kind of dumb, but I'll go with it. Oh, you want to know what it is, reader? Yeah, you're going to have to do a crazy initiation before figuring it out. We might have you eat a bunch of aquatic cobras or something. You never know when it comes to The MFUSC.

The thought process of creating our name

My fourth of July was quite interesting. I hope you all enjoyed the fireworks! Because nothing screams national pride and patriotism like illegal pyrotechnics.

Laziness, Laughter, and Lions (and Tigers and Bears - oh my!)

If there's anything I love, it's having free time. And summer allows for a lot of that. I mean, when you don't have a car or car insurance, what else is there to do, right? So if there was one word I would associate myself with in the summer, it would be the world 'lazy.'

My laziness was executed yesterday by staying in bed for x amount of hours, eating until I felt like I would throw up (oh, yum), and being on the computer whilst creating this BlogSpot. Yes, very exciting, I know. My cousin, sister, and I shared some laughs around my kitchen table by talking about pointless things. I guess you could say that we either a) are easily amused or b) have a weird sense of humor. If it were up to me, I'd say it's a little bit of both.

My sister, myself, and my cousin, being overexposed by bathroom lighting.

My fatigue and laziness were put to rest when my dad and his girlfriend decided to take me, my siblings, and my cousin to watch Madagascar 3. It was the second time I watched it, and--dare I say it--it was even better a second time! Compared to the other two movies in the Madagascar series, this one took the cake. Maybe the circus theme is what really got me.

We were the only ones in the theatre! ...for the first 5 minutes.

Yesterday wasn't all that eventful, and neither was today, so I might not write down today's events (see, the laziness is kicking in again). But tomorrow is the fourth of July! And that calls for an explosion of events. Get it? Fireworks.. explosion.. July 4th.. okay, nevermind.

Until Next Time,
Katelyn

Talks, Teddy Bears, and Tears

I guess I just could not pick one emotion yesterday. And no, it isn't that time of month for me (yet). But I guess you know it's a good day when you have so many different feelings throughout the day. The good feelings, at least.

Yesterday's church service seemed quite long. I couldn't tell if it was because there were no handouts to fill in or if Pastor Bryan was just telling non-vital and irrelevant information throughout the message. Whatever it was, I found myself snacking on Sour Patch Kids to pass the time. (I should inform you that I was eating candy in a "No Food" sanctuary. I'm such a rebel, I know.) After the service, I caught up with one of my good friends named Justin. We just filled each other in on what's been happening in both of our lives. Nothing really noteworthy, but it was nice to just catch up with someone who's really important to you.

If there's one thing that I hate [more than girls who are bandwagon fans of One Direction (yes that makes me mad--don't judge)], it's when people flake out on you. Come on reader, you know what I'm talking about. If not, here is a scenario to help you better understand:

Your So-Called Friend: "Hey, let's hang out tomorrow!"
You: "Yeah! What shall we do?"
-insert arrangement of plans here-
Your So-Called Friend: "It's set! I'll pick you up tomorrow!"

on the day of the aforementioned plans:
You (via text):
"Still hanging out today?"
-insert hours of waiting for a response, yet nothing arrives, therefore canceling your plans-

Unfortunately, the scenario above happened to me yesterday. My "friend" thought giving me an excuse would work, but that has happened too many times to accept again. So what did I do in response, you may ask? I went over to his house and gave him a piece of my mind. No, I'm just joking. I didn't have the balls (nor a ride to his place) to tell him off. Instead, I sugarcoated things and said, "That's fine, it's totally okay!" Typical girl response, I know. But he took it! Girls: 1, Boys: 0.

But one boy who never fails to disappoint me is Isaac. With us both being 17, we decided on an impromptu date to go watch Ted. And if there's one "cool" thing about being 17, it's the fact that you can watch R-rated movies without needing a parent present. Yes, we felt pretty badass watching an R-rated movie on our own. Okay, maybe only I did, but hey, that's the one thing to really look forward to when you're seventeen years old. That, and the fact that it's only one year until your eighteenth birthday. But that's another story.

Here is a picture of my first R-rated movie ticket that I know you would all love to see

With happiness and laughter in tow after the movie, the ride home was pretty enjoyable. However, my mood was soon brought down after watching videos/pictures of One Direction's last concert of the Up All Night Tour. My heart pretty much broke. Not literally (obviously), but enough to make it feel like it was being cracked down the middle. My boys are going back home! And if that wasn't enough, so many emotions overwhelmed me, and the crying session ensued. 'The boys that I've watched online for two years just finished their first headlining tour in the US!' 'I have to wait a whole year to see them again!' 'Why wasn't I at the last concert all the way in Fort Lauderdale?!' These were all statements that ran through my head. I'm. Still. In. Shock. I should probably stop talking about it before I cry again. Yes, Katelyn, that has been your smartest idea all day.

My fangirl heart exploded upon viewing this sentimental photograph
Well that's all, folks. There's my first post of my life documentation. I hope you enjoyed it. And if you didn't, well, I'm sorry my life isn't exciting enough for you. Thanks for reading anyways.

Until Next Time,
Katelyn
